Improvising tutorial for Bb blues by trombonist, Natalie Cressman

This tutorial is pretty similar to some of the exercises I like to do in lessons with my brass students. I’ll post it below for you to check out. Trumpeters keep in mind that you’ll have to transpose from concert pitch to Bb pitch.

Here are some transposing reminders:

  • F7 – F A C Eb is a G7 on the trumpet G B D F
  • Bb7 – Bb D F Ab is a C7 on the trumpet C E G Bb
  • C7 – C E G Bb is a D7 on the trumpet D F# A C
