The original staff wars helps you to learn the names of notes. You have to read the musical note and quickly figure out what letter name from “A” to “G” is appropriate. It gets quicker and quicker and be careful not to just guess as mistakes cost you health and you only get one try at each note.
Get Staff Wars Live.
Practice actually playing the notes rather than just naming them. Apple iphone/ipod Touch – also just under $1.50 but is not available on Android, sorry. It is a separate game so you have to spend another $1.50 so make sure you choose the right game.
Staff Wars Live is a little different to the original Staff Wars as you have to make use of the microphone built into your iDevice and actually play the notes as they appear. Make sure you go into settings and select “Trumpet” as your instrument or it will think you’re getting everything wrong! (Trumpet is a transposing instrument as many of you know). You can also select the range in which you want to be tested so make sure you don’t have the top notes way out of your reach. You may choose to select notes in the range in which you have troubles… perhaps you’re less comfortable in the upper register so you will have a limited range selected only in your upper register and deselect the “easy” notes that you’ve been playing for longer.
The leaderboard is just starting to have some contenders sending through their personal bests (either show your screenshot to me in our lesson or email me the screenshot file)
